Category - Thrift Store Junkie
I love to go to thrift stores. It is just like treasure hunting! I have found so many unique & interesting or useful & cheap items along the way. I’ve experienced lots of great locations that I’d like to share, but thought the best way to start is to group stores by geographic area.
Also, this is not intended to be a comparison of shops or even a complete list of stores in an area. Instead, I like to highlight second hand shops that are unusual or notable in some way and to describe why that is.
Beyond Thrift
I’ve volunteered for a thrift shop for over eight years. While I feel good about helping the .ORG with their mission, and helping to get unwanted things a new home, I’ve learned that a fairly large amount of what does get donated cannot be sold. There are a lot of reasons for this, but if you don’t want a stained ripped sheet, most other people don’t want it either. I got to thinking about what happened to all the stuff that can’t be resold or repurposed, and I came upon a terrific book that explored this question. It’s well written and entertaining, in addition to being educational, so I thought I’d tell you about it – follow the link to read an excerpt or to get yourself a copy.
