Hardwood Floor Cleaner: My Choice

bona hardwood floor cleaner refill bottle

Product Review: Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner

If you’re looking for an effective and reliable solution for cleaning your hardwood floors, Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner is my go-to product! I’ve been using it for several years, and it is definitely my choice for keeping my floors looking spotless, free of pet hair, and well-maintained.

How I Discover Bona

I was shopping at my local, family owned and run hardware store. I can’t remember what I was shopping for, but they were highlighting the product and giving away some samples. I thought, “Why Not?” Once I tried the product, I decided that I liked it much better than what I had been using before.

Ease of Use

Bona is super easy to use. You just spray a light mist from a spray bottle ahead of where your mop is and it does the trick. My biggest cleaning issue is pet hair, so the small amount of spray, combined with the static nature of the mop cover easily deals with the shedded fur.

The small amount of spray doesn’t get the floor all that wet, so you can walk on it immediately without leaving footprints. In fact, I use so little of the spray on each mopping that I only have to refill my spray bottle about once a year.

If I have a crusted on spot of food or other “gunga”, I just spray a bit of Bona on a cotton cleaning rag and wipe it first, then I finish by going over the area with my mop.

If I have a traffic area that is super grungy, I will use a mop pad in my Swiffer instead of the Dry style mop cover. I spray enough Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner directly on the surface of the mop pad to saturate it a bit and then do my mopping. In this case, you will need to let the floor dry a bit before walking on it.

If you have one of those mops that has a liquid cleaner dispenser built into it, you can just pour the Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner directly into the dispenser. If it has a flow adjustment, turn it down to the lowest flow possible to start out, then adjust if you need to.

Smell

Another great feature is the scent — or really, the lack of it. It has a very mild, fresh fragrance that isn’t overpowering. Some cleaning products can leave a strong chemical odor, but Bona Hardwood Floor cleaner is formulated without heavy perfumes.

Safe for Wood

One of my main concerns with floor cleaners is whether they will damage or discolor my hardwood floors over time. Bona is specifically designed for hardwood surfaces, and I’ve noticed no dulling or discoloration. I have Hickory floors that came with a sealed finish applied to the boards at the factory. This is exactly what Bona Hardwood Floor cleaner was made for. On the package it also states that, and adds that it is not intended for waxed wood floors.

I have observed that some of the other products intended for hardwood floors that I’ve used leave a sticky, streaky finish. The floor surface ends up shinier, but then the shine wears off unevenly. These detractors are not an issue with the Bona product.

Packaging

You can buy Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner in a spray bottle format. As you can see from my featured picture, it is also available in a Refill Size bottle, where the product costs less per ounce. I then just pour some into my own spray bottle.

Mopping Products

I am planning on adding an article that covers the Swiffer Mop that I use and that compares some of the available refill mop covers that are available for it. Once I have that article written, you will find a link to it here.

Just 15 seconds of mopping and I already have picked up this much dog fur! That floor (see picture above) didn’t really look that dirty!

Conclusion

I highly recommend Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner to anyone who wants an easy, effective, and safe way to clean their hardwood floors. It’s affordable, environmentally friendly (no harmful chemicals), and most importantly, it delivers great results. Whether you have a light traffic area or high-traffic zones in your home, this cleaner will leave your floors looking beautiful and refreshed every time. It’s truly one of the best hardwood floor cleaners I’ve used.
